Botulinum toxin injections (BTX) are often referred to by the product name Botox. Botox is a biological toxin that is transformed into a therapeutic agent. Botox has been used safely for decades.

Injections of Botox are used in the treatment of “crow’s feet”, forehead furrows, lines and wrinkles of the lower face, and “bunny lines” that appear at the bridge of the nose between the eyes. These injections target the specific muscle that contract during facial expressions such as frowning or squinting. The technique is a simple injection placed directly into the muscle using a tiny needle. The results are usually dramatic and will reach full enhancement within two to three days.

•   A small percentage of patients are reported to experience no improvement at all.
